Covid19 news in Corfu Greece
Greece officially opened its boarders to incoming tourism about 3 weeks ago on the first of July (except UK and Sweden 15/07). Since then, we regularly post news about the evolvement of Covid19 in Greece. In addition, we collect news from top tourism destinations like Corfu, Crete and others.
All tourists entering the country have to to fill in an official government form called Passenger Locator Form (PLF) 48 hours prior their arrival.
Thus, providing detailed information on their point of departure. Also, stating the duration of previous stays in other countries, and the address of their stay while in Greece. In case of multiple stays, they must provide the address for the first day at least.
Authorities argue that PLF is assessed via a complex computer algorithm. This program helps identify travellers at high risk of importing the virus. This algorithm indicates which travellers should have the test for Covid-19 at the point of entry into the country.
Since then on a daily basis several tests take place at country’s entrance points (airports, ports, boarders). A few days ago local authorities announced that from July 1 to 19, a total of 295 foreign visitors have tested positive for the Covid-19 virus, while 76% of the cases being tourists entering mainly north Greece.
On Corfu island, 6 new cases recorded on last Wednesday. Two tourists from the UK, staying in the south of the island (Kavos), tested positive for Covid-19 and have been transferred to the island’s quarantine hotel. Four further cases were also confirmed on the island, involving two French tourists and two tourists from Romania. They currently stay at the quarantine hotel, which is hosting 8 travellers who are positive to Covid19.
Finally, in Corfu General Public hospital remains a 74 year old woman from Albania positive to Covid19 expected though to soon be discharged.
On 24th of July twenty-six new infections announced. Six of the new cases recorded at country’s boarders.
