Covid19 new cases and measures
Significant increase in numbers of Covid19 new cases and new measures announced. Local authorities announced today a new high reaching 78 new cases and 3 deaths from Covid19. The majority of the new cases 42 found in Athens and Thessaloniki. Greek authorities are imposing new measures to prevent the spread of Covid19.
More specifically, all citizens have to wear masks inside shops and other enclosed public spaces including churches. Till 15th of August no visiting allowed to nursing homes and up to one escort in hospitals (if necessary). Additionally, no more then 100 people attending wedding ceremonies and other social gatherings. Till 9th of August no standing people allowed in bars. Postponing local festivals till the end of August. Continuing ban of flights to Turkey, Albania and North Macedonia. Finally, strict recommendation to wear a mask even in public spaces in case physical distancing is not possible to be kept.
Last days rise in cases keeps causing headache to epidemiologists of the country. Positive tests numbers are increasing in July. It appears the opening of Greek boarders to incoming tourism is having its side effects.
After the numbers of new cases having stabilized somewhat in the previous weeks, in the last several days the number of new infections has risen over 50’s per day. Yesterday 65 new coronavirus cases reported across the country.
The last measures came into effect just a few days ago and today were further reinforced. Greek authorities are struggling to maintain country’s positive outcome during the first pandemic wave last March. Nevertheless, authorities’ main objective is country to remain safe for people visiting as much as people living in Greece. Following weeks will reveal the results of the measures.
